Jan-Feb 2018: Georgia earns $24.3m by exporting 10.8m bottles of wine

Georgia exported 10.8 million bottles of wine to 38 countries in January-February 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

During the first two months of 2018 Georgia generated about $24.3 million from the sale of wine abroad.

Revenue increased by 18 percent from January-February 2017, while the volume of exports increased by 23 percent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Export growth was notable in the following countries:

  • Japan – 213 percent increase (44,292 bottles)
  • Great Britain – 137 percent increase (36,108 bottles)
  • Estonia – 75 percent increase (88,326 bottles)
  • Israel – 58 percent increase (31,272 bottles)
  • Latvia – 43 percent increase (262,110 bottles)

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-February 2018 were:

  1. Russia – 7,425,286 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 972,976bottles
  3. China – 559,168 bottles
  4. Kazakhstan – 501,282 bottles
  5. Poland – 441,202 bottles

In the first two months of 2018, 109 companies exported their wines abroad, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 2.2 million bottles of Georgian brandy and 29,800 bottles of Chacha abroad in January-February 2018.
