Jan-April 2018: Georgian wine exports up 36 percent

Georgia exported 25 million bottles of wine to 43 countries in the first four months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

In January-April of 2018 Georgia generated about $59.2 million from the sale of wine abroad.

Revenue increased by 43 percent from January-April 2018, while the volume of exports increased by 36 percent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Export growth was notable in the following countries:

  • Japan – 139 percent increase (73,122 bottles)
  • The Czech Republic – 90 percent (21,288 bottles)
  • Belarus – 429 percent (233,220 bottles)
  • Great Britain – 89 percent increase (40,740 bottles)
  • Kazakhstan – 84 percent increase (1,108,938 bottles)
  • The Netherlands – 83 percent increase (29,793 bottles)

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-April 2018 were:

  1. Russia – 16,246,021 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 2,389,280 bottles
  3. China – 1,802,792 bottles
  4. Kazakhstan – 1,108,938 bottles
  5. Poland – 1,012,774 bottles

In the first four months of 2018, 147 companies exported their wines abroad, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported five million bottles of Georgian brandy and 84,000 bottles of Chacha abroad in January-April 2018.
