Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has announced that the fine for construction violations may soon amount to 30,000 GEL ($12,000) without an initial warming.
The mayor stated that his office has already held consultations with the government and the parliament and the initiated changes have "high support”, he said.
The very first case of a construction violation will be fined up to 30,000 GEL. Now, if such a violation is detected, the construction company or the individual in charge receives an official warning. In the case of a repeated violation, the fine is 3,000 GEL ($1,200),” Kaladze said.
The mayor says the tough measure is necessary to end an increasing trend of fatalities in the workplace.
Kaladze also announced that if construction was stopped due to violations and the company continued works anyway, they will be fined 50,000 GEL ($20,000).
Illegal construction on state land will be fined by 25,000 GEL ($10,000) and on private land by 20,000 GEL ($8,000).
