Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will participate in the European Union (EU) and Georgia Association Council meeting tomorrow which will be held in Brussels, Belgium.

The progress achieved through the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and the Free and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) will be discussed at the meeting.

The priorities of the renewed agenda of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement will also be discussed. The EU and Georgia adopted a revised association agenda outlining priorities for joint work until 2020 last November.

The Association Council will:

  • Discuss internal political developments in Georgia, including the issues related to the area of justice, freedom and security,
  • Review the impact of the short stay visa-free regime, following the entry into force of the visa liberalisation agreement in March 2017,
  • Examine the economic situation and EU cooperation with Georgia, including in the transport and energy sectors,
  • Discuss foreign policy issues, including peaceful conflict resolution.

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference of PM Kvirikashvili and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

Kvirikashvili will lead the Georgian delegation comprised of members of the cabinet. The delegation will hold bilateral meetings including with EU officials.

The first ever EU-Georgia Association Council meeting was held in 2014. The council is the highest formal body established under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement meant to supervise Georgia's implementation of the deal and to discuss issues of mutual interest.
