American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) celebrated its 20th anniversary in Georgia yesterday.
AmCham’s contribution to the development of the Georgian economy was assessed as important by the Minister of Economy Giorgi Kobulia at the organisation’s gala dinner last night.
“During its 20 years of existence, AmCham has helped us with advice and support in the process of reforming our country,” Giorgi Kobulia added expressing his hope that fruitful cooperation with AmCham will continue in the future as well.
He said that AmCham is a mechanism through which businesses can access the government and deliver concerns that have to be addressed.
Giorgi Kobulia also emphasised the importance of a possible free trade agreement between Georgia and US and expressed his hope that the next step of deepening relations between the two countries would be the signing of the agreement.
American Chamber of Commerce started operating in Georgia in 1998 and currently represents one of the largest business unions in the country involving more than 200 companies. The chamber aims at strengthening ties between Georgia and the US as well as contributing to the improvement of the business environment in the country.

George Welton, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Georgia is praising the Georgian Government’s effort to simplify the country’s Tax Code, assuring it will fasten economic growth in Georgia.
United States Congressman Ted Poe has sent a letter to the United States Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Lighthizer urging him to consider a free trade agreement between the US and Georgia.
"Our goal is to develop and establish Georgia as a European country with the European laws and regulations, less bureaucracy, promote our advantageous geographical location, low prices of energy and, of course, free trade agreements with all neighbouring countries and with the European Union.”
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today in Washington D.C. Bakhtadze and Pompeo discussed the possibility of signing a free trade agreement between the US and Georgia.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia has expressed its support for direct flights between the US and Georgia, in a letter published on September 16, 2019.
Ongoing reforms and future plans for the development of the Georgian economy, as well as the Government’s economic policy were in focus of a meeting between the Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and members of the American Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry said on Friday.
The Georgian chamber of commerce won the nomination for the Best Chamber of Commerce of the Year at Go Global Award, a competition hosted in Tallinn, Estonia on Sunday.
