The US Embassy in Georgia has released a statement regarding the erection of new barbed wire fences in the village of Atotsi of the Kareli municipality in eastern Georgia, near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
The embassy says that Russia must end its occupation of Georgian lands.
The U.S. condemns Russia’s “borderization” at Atotsi village. Installing fences harms livelihoods and restricts freedom of movement on both sides of the Administrative Boundary Line. Russia must end its occupation of the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Russia-controlled forces began the erection of new barbed wire fences on 7 November.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated in response that Georgia will never tolerate neither old nor new barbed wire fences.
The Georgian Foreign and Reconciliation ministries have stated that the international community has been informed regarding the illegal action. .
Reconciliation Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili says that through the erection of barbed wire fences Russia is attempting to isolate the Tskhinvali region from the outside world.
The Georgian Dream supported presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili visited Atotsi yesterday, where locals told her that Russian erected the new barbed wire fences on their agricultural lands.
