10 vehicle inspection centres caught issuing fake certificates of road worthiness in Georgia

Ten vehicle inspection centres were issuing fake certificates of road worthiness, announces the Investigation Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance, based on monitoring studies conducted in different regions of Georgia.

The violations were uncovered in Tbilisi, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Kakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions.

The investigation continues and the charges provide for imprisonment from four to six years.

The Georgian Ministry of Economy reported that during the investigation period, the licenses for all 10 vehicle inspection centres will be suspended.

Meanwhile, the Investigation Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance announced that all vehicles that were given the fake certificate will have to undergo vehicle inspections one more time. 

There are 40 vehicle inspection centres registered in Georgia.

Mandatory vehicle inspections started in Georgia from January 1, 2018.

As of June 20, 2018 a total of 36,394 vehicles had been inspected in Georgia and 75 per cent of them (27,143 vehicles) had been found roadworthy, announced Georgia’s Ministry of Economy.
