EU allocates additional €6 million for education program in Georgia

The European Union has decided to allocate additional €6 million for its Erasmus+ program in Georgia, which is the EU programme 2014-2020 for education, training, youth and sport.

The increased budget will allow 800 additional scholarships for Georgians over the coming two years.

The statement was made today by the National Erasmus+ Office in Georgia during the Erasmus+ Info Days in Tbilisi. 

The event was opened by Carl Hartzell, EU ambassador to Georgia, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Vakhtang  Makharoblishvili and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Mikheil Batiashvili. 

Considering the high demand for Erasmus+ projects and scholarships, the EU has announced a so called Special Funding Window for Georgia for the next two years,” EU in Georgia reported. 

Erasmus + is active in Georgia since 2015, replacing previous educational programmes (Tempus, Erasmus Mundus Action 2) funded by the EU. 

The seven year programme  have a budget of €14.7 billion; a 40 per cent  increase compared to current spending levels, reflecting the EU's commitment to investing in these areas.

The European delegation in Georgia says that Georgia is one of the most successful Erasmus+ countries with a high number of projects and scholarships.
