Germany offers €43 million for water supply and sanitation programmes in Georgia’s Adjara region

The German government is offering €40 million in financial resources and a €3 million grant to Georgia for water supply and sanitation programmes in the country’s Adjara region.
 
The loan and grant agreement was signed today between Georgia’s Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani and German Development Bank (KfW) Regional Director Olaf Zimelka.
 
The money will be spent on water supply and sanitation programmes in Adjara’s villages and municipalities of Khulo, Keda, Shuakhevi, Khelvachauri and Kobuleti.
 
Currently, a four-phase project is underway in the Black Sea resort town of Batumi, which aims to improve water and sewage infrastructure in Batumi. For this reason a €119 million loan and €37 million grant have been allocated.
 
Georgia’s Ministry of Finance announces that cooperation with Germany will be continued in the future regarding the water supply and sanitation programmes.
