Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has appointed former Tbilisi Mayor Irakli Lekvinadze as the  new business ombudsman of Georgia.

He is an economist with a Ph.D. in business administration. At different times, he was a consultant for various international programs and the vice president of the Association of Young Financiers and Businessmen,” Kvirikashvili said.

The PM stated that the new ombudsman will serve as an "important link” between business and the government.

He is a very decent man and a good professional, and I am convinced that he will continue the great and important traditions of this office, serving as the mouthpiece of business in the government. Surely, this institution has become effective under our government.  I would like to wish him success,” Kvirikashvili said.

The business ombudsman position was established in 2011.

The business ombudsman is tasked to supervise the protection of rights and legitimate interests of those involved in entrepreneurial activities performed on the territory of Georgia, to reveal the facts of violation of those rights and legitimate interests by an administrative body and facilitate the restoration of violated rights in accordance with the rules stipulated by the law.
