Georgia and China are strengthening ties in the field of cinema industry, signing a memorandum to start joint production and support distribution of Georgian movies in China.
The memorandum was signed within the 2018 Shanghai International Film Festival, where Georgian director’s Zaza Khalvashi’s film "Namme” was presented.
Thanks to the memorandum the Georgian National Film Center joined the platform of ‘Belt and Road’ together with 26 other signature countries.
The memorandum aims to promote Georgian-Chinese joint film production and bring more Georgian films into Chinese market.
During the festival Georgian National Film Center has started negotiations with China to launch first Georgian-Chinese cinema production. The film will be based on true story and its main topic will be how Chinese man brought tea culture to Georgia back in the beginning of 20th century.
So far distribution rights of two Georgian films ‘Mother’ and ‘Namme’ have been sold in China.
Meanwhile, the new Chinese TV series ‘The Mask’ is being filmed in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi and the Black Sea resort town of Batumi within the ‘Film in Georgia’ programme.
