Batumi maritime academy receives first-ever training vessel for students

From now on, students of Batumi State Maritime Academy, along with theoretical knowledge, will have the opportunity to receive practical experience as well.

For the first time in the 90-year history of Georgia’s only maritime university, it has its own training vessel.

Today, Batumi State Maritime Academy was gifted a tanker Cadet that had been under state ownership until now.

The initiative of gifting the ship to the academy came from Vice Prime Minister, Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili.

"This is a very important decision since the academy has never had its own training ship until now”, the Economy Ministry said.

It added that the teaching quality at the academy will increase after its students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience as well.

The official ceremony of presenting the gift took place at Batumi Port today.

Batumi State Maritime Academy will start using the newly received vessel this year.
