Kutaisi International Airport shows record increase in passengers

Kutaisi International Airport has served 38,417 passengers in May - a 37% y/y increase and "a record number” according to United Airports of Georgia.
The record increase was mainly due to adding new, low-cost flights to European cities. 187 flights were carried out in May alone, which is a 26% increase in comparison to the same period last year.
"We consider that such an increase in passengers is connected with more aircrafts based at and flights from Kutaisi Airport. The low cost carrier Wizz Air has added five new routes to Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Prague and Athens in May. Thus we have a positive forecast and expect the number of passengers to increase even more in June”, head of United Airports of Georgia, Keti Aleksidze said.
171,000 passengers were served by Kutaisi Airport during the first five months of this year in total, which is a 20% y/y increase.
The new terminal of Georgia’s western Kutaisi International Airport will be opened in early 2019 to cater to the rapidly growing number of passengers. This new terminal will be able to serve three times more passengers than now, says the Georgian Airports Association.
Georgia’s three international airports served 839,612 passengers in the first three months of 2018, which is a 36 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
The total number of passengers served by Georgia’s three international airports amounted to 4,073,959 in 2017. With 12 percent, Turkish Airlines tops the list of the most popular airline companies operating in Georgia.
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, is launching a new direct flight that will connect Georgia to Romania. Starting from July 3, 2018 Wizz Air will launch flights between Georgia’s western city of Kutaisi and Romania’s capital of Bucharest, the airline company announced today.
The construction of a new terminal in Kutaisi international Airport will be completed by the end of 2019.
