New York-based Levan Songulashvili has been named ArtistADay online platform’s Artist of the Year, heading an end-of-year selection of creators from around the world on the website.
Songulashvili became the first Georgian artist to be picked by curators of the platform that features and promotes emerging professional artists for enthusiasts.
The ArtistADay selection of Top 10 professional artists of 2017 was unveiled on Monday, with the team of the platform urging visitors to "check out [Songulashvili’s] amazing work based on the the "mysteries of life".

The curators also presented the Georgian creator’s 2017 work The Styx Jellyfish to accompany the feature.
ArtistADay works by introducing the platform’s visitors to a new artist from its curated roster on a daily basis.
The website has featured over 3,200 artists since its launch a decade ago and has hosted over 50 million unique visitors from more than 240 countries.
Songulashvili’s works are currently on display at London’s Royal Academy of Arts within the exhibition From Life.
Portraits of rock legend Iggy Pop, created by Songulashvili at the Brooklyn Museum last year, are displayed at the venue through March 2018.
The artist himself is currently benefiting from a Berlin residency while preparing for displays in the German capital as well as in Geneva and Tbilisi over the coming spring.
