Theft is the most common type of crime in Georgia, show the latest data published by the Supreme Court of Georgia.
In the first two quarters of 2017 the total number of convicts amounted to 7,374 of which the most common types of crime were the following ones:
- Theft – 1,377
- Illegal production, manufacturing, acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of drugs – 1,037
- Violation of rules of traffic safety and secure use of transport - 329
- Larceny - 112
- Robbery -83
- Infliction of intentional injury -72
- Premeditated homicide – 54
- Hooliganism - 43
- Aggravated murder – 19
- Rape -3
- Others - 4245
The Court prescribed penalties to those 7,374 convicts in a following way:
- Imprisonment – 1,782
- Suspended conviction – 3,395
- Fine – 1,460
- Public work - 696
- Other penalties – 41
As for age composition of convicts, most people who were convicted in Q1 and Q2 2017 were middle-aged. Specifically:
- 14-17 – 107 persons
- 18-24 – 1,279 persons
- 25-29 – 1,323 persons
- 30-49 – 3,815 persons
- 50 and over – 850 persons
Out of the total number of convicts there were 361 women, said the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the total number of juvenile offenders reached 107 of which three were girls and 31 were imrprisoned.
Juvenile offenders were convicted by following type of offence in Q1, Q2 2017:
- Premeditated homicide – two convicts
- Infliction of intentional injury – four convicts
- Theft – 58 convicts
- Hooliganism - two convicts
- Illegal production, manufacturing, acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of drugs – one convict
- Other crime – 40 convicts
