Turkey, Russia, China – Georgia’s top trading partners in 2017

Turkey, Russia and China are Georgia’s top trade partners this year, shows preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Georgia’s top 10 trade partners in January-July 2017 made for 65.8 percent of the country’s total trade turnover, with Turkey ($858.7 million), Russia ($605.7 million) and China ($481.4 million) filling the top three spots.

Trade with EU countries

Trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries increased by 11 percent year-on-year (y/y) and amounted to $1541.5 million, said Geostat.

Exports were worth $339.1 million (33.6 percent higher), while imports reached $1202.4 million (six percent higher).

Trade with CIS countries

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries totalled $1808.2 million in January-July 2017 – a 30.7 percent higher compared to the same period of 2016.

Exports were worth $570.3 million (59.4 percent higher) while imports equalled $1237.9 million (20.7 percent higher).

What are Georgia's main exports?

Georgia's top exported commodities in January-July 2017 were:

  • Copper ores and concentrates (worth $243.7 million, or 16.8 percent of total exports)
  • Ferro-alloys (worth $182.5 million, or 12.6 percent of total exports)
  • Motor cars (worth $102.4 million, or 7.1 percent of total exports)

What are Georgia's main imports?

Georgia's top imported commodities were:

  • Petroleum and petroleum oils (worth $354.8 million, or 8.4 percent of total imports)
  • Motor cars (worth $261.3 million or 6.2 percent of total imports)
  • Medicaments (worth $196.6 million, or 4.6 percent of total imports)
