The construction of a new state-funded rehabilitation house for young people with solid tumors is now underway.

The idea to build a hotel–like rehabilitation centre for ill children belongs to the Monk Andria Charity Fund and the construction will be financed by the Government initiated Solidarity Fund.

  • Solid tumour refers to an abnormal mass of tissue that usually does not contain cysts or liquid areas. Solid tumours may be benign (not cancerous), or malignant (cancerous).
  • Different types of solid tumors are named for the type of cells that form them. Examples of solid tumors are sarcomas, carcinomas, and lymphomas. Leukaemias (cancers of the blood) generally do not form solid tumors.

Emphasising the importance of the new facility Mikheil Janelidze, Georgia’s Foreign Minister who is also the country’s new Vice Prime Minister said it is the obligation of every civilised state to take care of health and welfare of its citizens.

Construction of the rehabilitation centre is supposed to finish in Summer of 2019. This will be the first facility in Georgia where children with solid tumours and their families will receive free treatment and rehabilitation services.

The facility will be capable of providing services for 20 kids and their parents, 24 hours a day.

A special day centre will also operate within the rehabilitation house were 50 children and their parents will receive a range of free support services during the day.
