Georgian wrestlers claim 3 gold, 7 bronze at Poland Open

The Georgian team competed in freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines of the Warsaw competition.

Georgian wrestlers swept 10 medals including three gold at the United World Wrestling Poland Open after competing in the three-day tournament in Warsaw that concluded on Sunday.

European champion Vladimer Khinchegashvili claimed gold along with fellow athletes Zurab Iakobishvili and Levan Arabuli at the event that ran along with memorial tournaments for Polish wrestlers Waclaw Ziolkowski and Wladyslaw Pytlasinski.

Involving freestyle and Greco-Roman fixtures, the competition attracted participants from around the world in eight weight categories for each of the disciplines.

Khinchegashvili defeated Moldova's Andrei Perpelita in the 61kg final, while Iakobishvili and Arabuli claimed champion's titles in the 70kg and 130kg categories against Russia's Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov and Lithuania's Mantas Knystautas respectively.

Seven other members of the Georgian team collected bronze medals at the competition that ran in the Polish capital from July 7.

Beka Lomtadze, Avtandil Kentchadze, Davit Khutsishvili and Elizbar Odikadze were awarded in the 61kg, 74kg, 86kg and 97kg freestyle categories, while Giorgi Meshvildishvili also finished third in the 125kg.

Shmagi Bolkvadze and Robert Kobliashvili rounded off the success of the Georgian team with bronze medals in 71kg and 85kg of the Greco-Roman discipline.
