Georgian President sends warm wishes to Italy on Republic Day

On June 2 Italians celebrate Republic Day commemorating the abolishment of the monarchy and the birth of republic

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili sent warm wishes to Italian President Sergio Mattarella on the Republic Day of Italy today.

Emphasising that "Georgia attaches high importance to developing friendly and mutually beneficial relations with your country as our strong partner”, Margvelashvili said "as 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Italy” he welcomed the advancement of mutual cooperation between the two countries throughout the years".

I remain confident that with our joint efforts, close cooperation between our countries will become even stronger and bring joint benefit to both two nations”, President Margvelashvili said.

Extending his gratitude for Italy’s "steadfast support towards Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic aspiration”, Margvelashvili asked Mattarella to accept his "highest consideration along with his best wishes for peace and prosperity for the friendly Italian people”.

It was on June 2 in 1946 when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy and the republic of Italy was born.
