Georgian mother and son compete at 2016 Rio Olympics

A Georgian mother and son will soon make national history when they both compete at this year's Olympic Games.

Three-time Olympic medal winner, shooter Nino Salukvadze and her son Tsotne Machavariani both qualified for the upcoming Olympics in Brazil.

This will be the first time in Georgia’s history when a mother and son will compete together at the same Olympics.

Coach of both athletes is Nino’s father Vakhtang Salukvadze, meaning three generations of one family will be present in Georgia’s national team at the prestigious competition.

Machavariani gained his qualificaion license to the Olympics after he took sixth place at the shooting European Championship in Hungary earlier this week.

With this honour he became the 15th Georgian athlete to receive the right to compete at this year’s Olympis in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
