The road to Gudauri - one of Georgia’s main ski resorts - has been cleared of heavy snow and is now open.

A short time ago Georgia’s Road Department released latest information about the situation of the country’s roads following heavy snow that earlier closed several roads throughout the country.

The Roads Department said major efforts to clean the roads were currently underway on the road heading from Gudari to Kobi, along the only road connecting Georgia and Russia.

All necessary equipment has been brought to the site and road cleaning efforts are ongoing at both sections (93-99km and 100-106km) of the Gudauri-Kobi Rd."

"Today the road will be cleaned for light transport and these vehicles will be able to move with anti-skid chains, while tomorrow the road will be open to truck and trailer units as well," said the agency in a statement.
