Chief Prosecutor: Fighting hate crime is a priority

Fight hate crime is a priority for the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, says Georgia’s top prosecutor.

Chief Prosecutor of Georgia Irakli Shotadze will present the Office's annual report to the Prosecutorial Office later today about the objectives and goals of the agency in 2017 and beyond.

But before this, Shotadze discussed some parts of the report with journalists.

My report contains a section on the prosecution conducted by us regarding hate crime. Addressing hate crime is one of our priorities,” Shotadze said.
Our prosecutors has undergone special training so they can better address these cases,” he added.

The Chief Prosecutor said some of the other priorities of the Chief Prosecutor's Office for 2017 were:

  • Liberal justice policy
  • Juvenile justice
  • Fighting domestic violence and reducing violence against women
  • Increasing the fight against sexual relations with a person under the age of 16
  • Fighting against crime motivated by religious, sexual or other prejudice
  • Fighting against human trafficking and terrorism
  • Protecting the rights of people with disabilities

Shotadze’s presentation will also show the efforts and achievements of the Chief Prosecutor's Office, and what the agency has done in the above mentioned areas over the past 12 months.

The presentation will also reveal the Chief Prosecutor's Office's development plan for the next six years.
