Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister meets Georgia’s top officials in Tbilisi

Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will visit Baku, Azerbaijan "in the coming days”.

Kvirikashvili announced his impending trip to the neighbouring nation a short time ago after meeting Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Tbilisi today.

Mammadyarov is in the Georgian capital on an official visit today. He held several high level meetings with Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili and others.

The sides stressed the strategic partnership ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan were based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and good neighbourly relations, and were in a state of constant development. They also stressed the as historical bonds friendship shared by the people of Georgia and Azerbaijan played an "indispensable role” in the enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.

At all of Mammadyarov’s meetings both sides emphasised Georgia and Azerbaijan supported each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty within their internationally recognised borders.

Additionally greater cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in the fields of energy and transport provided opportunities for the implementation of large-scale projects of mutual benefit, both sides agreed.

"Our countries have huge potential for deepening cooperation in trade and economic fields too,” said Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze after meeting his Azerbaijani counterpart.

It was also mentioned Georgia had great tourism potential and the country was a popular destination among Azerbaijani travellers.
