Georgia receives $105.4m from 13 largest donor countries

Georgia is receiving more money from abroad, shows latest figures from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The sum of money transfers coming into Georgia in June 2016 was 4.9 percent or $4.9 million USD more year-on-year (y/y), said NBG.

Remittance figures showed $105.4 million was transferred into Georgia in June 2016.

NBG said 91.7 percent of total money transfers from abroad came from 13 largest donor countries, where the amount transferred from of these countries each exceeded $1 million.

Meanwhile in June 2015 the share of these 13 countries constituted 92.1 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

In June 2016 Georgia’s top 13 donor countries were:

  • Russia - $35.9 million;
  • Greece - $13.2 million;
  • Italy - $11.5 million;
  • United States - $10.7 million;
  • Turkey - $7.8 million;
  • Israel - $5.1 million;
  • Spain - $2.9 million;
  • Germany - $2.9 million;
  • Ukraine - $1.6 million;
  • United Kingdom - $1.4 million;
  • Iraq - $1.2 million;
  • Kazakhstan - $1.2 million;
  • France - $1.2 million;
  • Other countries – 68.8 million.

Last month $16.5 million was transferred out of Georgia, compared to $14.3 million in June 2015, said NBG.
