Georgia is receiving more money from abroad, shows latest figures from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The sum of money transfers coming into Georgia in April 2016 was four percent or $3.7 million USD more year-on-year (y/y), said NBG.

Remittance figures showed $94.8 million USD was transferred into Georgia in April 2016.

NBG said 90.3 percent of total money transfers from abroad came from 12 donor countries, where the amount transferred from of these countries each exceeded 1 million USD.

Meanwhile in April 2015 the share of these 12 countries constituted 91.8 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

In April 2016 Georgia’s top 12 donor countries were: 

  • Russia - $31.6 million;
  • Greece - $11.8 million;
  • United States - $9.9 million;
  • Italy - $9.8 million;
  • Turkey - $7.2 million;
  • Israel - $4.7 million;
  • Spain - $2.7 million;
  • Germany - $2.7 million;
  • Ukraine - $1.8 million;
  • United Kingdom - $1.4 million;
  • France - $1.1 million;
  • Azerbaijan - $1.1 million; and
  • Other countries – 62.6 million.

Last month $16.3 million USD was transferred out of Georgia, compared to $14.5 million USD in April 2015, said NBG.
