Winners of EU Prize for Journalism in Georgia revealed

The winners of the 2015 European Union Prize for Journalism have been revealed.

At a special ceremony at the National Parliamentary Library last night the EU Delegation to Georgia revealed the 2015 winners of the annual EU Prize for Journalism that recongised the best of local reporting.

Held for the fourth time in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, last night’s ceremony presented articles, blogs and documentary photo works in six categories.

The prizes went to the following reporters and media projects:

  • Best Investigative Story in Print or Online Media: Article titled Children of Povertyby Zurab Vardiashvili for www.liberali.ge
  • Best Investigative TV and/or Radio Coverage: Feature piece titled Sacrificed for Gold by Lia Toklikishvili (co-author Maia Gogoladze) for the Georgian Public Broadcaster
  • Best Online or Print Blog: Diaries of a Patient by Anuna Bukia for www.liberali.ge
  • The Most Informative Online Media: www.chai-khana.org
  • Best Documentary Photo: Deprived of Adolescence by Daro Sulakauri
  • The Peace Journalism Prize: Article titled Doctors Building Bridges of Health in Conflict Region by Nino Chipchiuri for www.women-peace.net

Winners in the first five categories were awarded by EU Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman while the Peace Journalism Price was presented by the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia mission leader Erik Hoeg.

The EU mission said 150 reporters and media projects had applied for the awards, which was the highest number of participants for the annual occasion.

The EU Prize for Journalism was first presented by the EU Delegation to Georgia in 2012.

Last year's awards saw six reporters and writers recognised, along with the Kakheti Information Centre news agency.
