Georgia’s capital Tbilisi is enjoying its first energy efficient kindergarten.
The 95th Kindergarten in Tbilisi has just turned into an energy efficient building through a pilot project that introduced energy-saving solutions during the construction of the kindergarten.
Thanks to the changes, the cost of the kindergarten's electricity is expected to drop by 51 percent.
This was an energy efficient pilot project which will significantly save electricity and natural gas. The kindergarten building was completely switched to solar energy. Financially it will be now easier to operate the kindergarten,” said Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania.
Cost-saving was not the only benefit of being an energy efficient kindergarten, but environmental protection as well.
We are reducing the volume of CO2 by 20 tonnes and are fulfilling our obligations of the Covenant of Mayors that Tbilisi City Hall signed in 2010,” said Narmania.
Today Tbilisi City Hall announced 10 new kindergartens would be built this year in Tbilisi and all of them will be energy efficient.
