Adjara announces major development projects worth $1.7 billion

Government officials from the Autonomous Republic of Adjara have introduced several investment projects worth more than $1 billion USD that will be implemented in Georgia’s western region in the next five years. 

At the Radisson Blu Hotel Batumi today, in front of representatives from the country's business sector, non-governmental agencies and media, Adjara Government officials gave details of the upcoming projects.

At the meeting Adjara’s Finance Minister Davit Baladze said the total amount of the region’s investment portfolio was $1.75 billion USD.

For the ongoing projects, of 3,581 people were employed, he said. 

A total 1.25 billion USD will be spent on implementing the projects from 2015 to 2020. Of this amount, $366 million USD will be spent solely on 2015’s investment projects. 

Head of the Government of Adjara, Archil Khabadze summed up the activities the Adjara Government had taken in order to introduce the region's potential to Georgia's neighbour countries. 

"We arranged a visit in Astana were Astana-Batumi Business Forum was held. Last year we held two business forums – Baku-Batumi and Kiev-Batumi. In future we plan to arrange a Minsk-Batumi Business Forum as well,” Khabadze said.

"In our twin cities we make presentations of those successful companies which follow us on the visits. This way we raise the awareness of Georgian companies in foreign markets. Several companies have already experienced positive results of such presentations,” Khabadze said.
