A Georgian Embassy has officially opened in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.
This is the first and only Georgian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and until now, the closest Georgian Embassy for Saudi Arabian nationals was in Egypt.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Georgian national flag has already been raised at the new Embassy building. The Georgian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is Giorgi Janjgava.
The Georgian Mission to Saudi Arabia founded in February 2014, when which plans were put in place to establish a Georgian Embassy in the Middle Eastern country.
Georgia's Foreign Ministry said opening of a Georgian Embassy in Saudi Arabia was an important step towards developing relations and economic cooperation with Arabian Peninsula countries.
The main goal of the Georgian Mission abroad would be development of bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and deepening cooperation with the secretaries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
In addition, the Ministry said it was working on diplomatic coverage of Sultanate of Oman, Kingdom of Bahrain and Yemen from Riyadh.
