For the first time in the history of Bakuriani, its Didveli ski resort will be illuminated to allow night skiing.

The ski resort currently is going through a development phase – firstly with the introduction of artificial snow machines which will provide a longer ski season until the middle of April, and now with the installation of modern LED lights that will illuminate the slopes at night.

"As you know, we greeted this year with several novelties. Starting from today everyone is able to ski at night in Bakuriani. The lights are ultra-modern and the whole of Europe is starting to use them as well,” said Didveli general manager Kote Kadagidze.

This track has also been named in honour of Georgian Olympic luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died in a tragic accident at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

Last night, when the slopes lit up, it was the first time the resort had the capability to operate at night. Kadagidze said the new LED lights were shining in blue, red or green, and could resist low temperatures, were durable and affordable.
