A new dairy factory has opened in Georgia; raw milk will be used to make a variety of butter and cheese products to supply the local market, leading Georgia to reduce the amount of such imported goods.

The Vita Product factory opened in Georgia’s Tsalka municipality over the weekend.

The factory was established within the Co-financing of Agro Processing Enterprises project and co-financed by the state ($178,712 USD) and by low-rate agricultural credit ($223,390 USD).

Within the last two years 139 new enterprises have been created using state support. This process still continues,” said Georgia’s Agriculture Minister Otar Danelia at the opening ceremony of Vita Product on Saturday, November 28.
We have received more applications and I hope we will finance some more enterprises by the end of this year,” he added.

Vita Product will process more than 3,000 tonnes of raw material annually and produce different sorts of cheese and butter. The products will be sold in the local market, meaning fewer butter and cheese items will need to be imported, said Danelia.

Construction of the factory began in July 2014 and completed in January this year. The factory employed 15 locals.
