US official praises Georgia on its democratic development

The United States (US) Deputy Assistant Secretary Bridget Brink has met with Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi this afternoon.

The meeting comes hours after the US envoy met with Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili. 

At the latest meeting Garibashvili and Brink discussed a wide range of issues that covered the Georgia-US strategic partnership, global and regional security and Georgia’s progress to assimilate into the Euro-Atlantic space. Georgia’s contribution to various international peacekeeping missions was also on the agenda.

Garibashvili and Brink said the bilateral partnership between the US and Georgia was strong but agreed more could be done to strengthen and bring the close partnership between the two nations even closer together.

While speaking about Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions, the US official praised the efforts to carry out democratic reforms. 

Brink also highlighted Georgia’s valuable contribution to international peace and praised Georgia, as a strategic partner of the US, for its large-scaled military contribution to internationally important peacekeeping missions. 

In return Garibashvili thanked Brink for her country’s continual support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its permanent encouragement of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic intentions. 

After the meetings with the President and the Government officials Brink was scheduled to  meet with the local opposition parties.
