One of Tbilisi’s favourite natural parks will soon boast a piece of legendary Japanese landscape design as a novelty for visitors that will also aim to highlight the friendly relations between Georgia and Japan.

A new Japanese corner will be created in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia. The central Tbilisi green area is an idyllic spot of diverse flora that offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere next to the city’s central area.

Botanical Garden staff announced the news today following a meeting between director Nino Gotsadze, Tbilisi City Hall’s Municipal Department of Ecology and Planting representative Nato Kirvalidze and a delegation from Japanese landscape experts Kosugi led by Andreas Hamacher.

The sides reviewed details for the project and agreed on a schedule to carry out the technical work required for building the garden corner in the park.

Kosugi specialised in landscape design and served more than 2,000 clients in Tokyo, Yokohama and other locations in japan. The company won a gold medal for landscape gardening at the 2007 WorldSkills Competition.

The company carried out a similar project in Bahrain, unveiling what is now known as the Bahrain Japan Friendship Garden in February this year.

The project to create a Japanese garden corner in the Botanical Garden will be carried out under the auspices of Tbilisi City Hall, with support from the Embassy of Japan in Georgia and the Japanese World Expo 1970 program.
