2.3 million visitors enter Georgia in 2015

Georgia is gaining an international reputation as a popular destination, with latest figures showing more visitors are coming here than 12 months ago.
Today the Information-Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs published data showing the number of visitors who entered Georgian territory in June 2015.
Last month 596,758 people crossed the Georgian border, which was 9.3 percent more than in June 2014.
The type of visitors to Georgia last month were:
- 197,537 tourists (39.8 percent of the total number of monthly visitors), which was a 3.4 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
- 131,710 transit visitors (26.5 percent of the total number of monthly visitors), which was an 80 percent increase y/y.
- 167,511 visitors as ‘other’ (33.7 percent of the total number of monthly visitors), which was a 12 percent increase y/y.
Last month the most visitors came from Turkey followed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia then Ukraine.
A positive trend was also retained from European Union (EU) countries, where the most visitors came from Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Germany, Latvia and the Netherlands.
From middle Asian Countries, most guests came from Uzbekistan last month followed by Kazakhstan, while the leaders among Eastern European countries were Belarus then Moldova.
Meanwhile in the first six months of the year Georgia welcomed more than 2.3 million visitors.
Specifically, the Ministry said 2,332,303 visitors had crossed the Georgian border between January 1 and June 30, which was 3.5 percent more than last year’s corresponding figures.
Georgia is beginning to cement its reputation as a leading tourism destination. The number of tourists who visited the country in May 2015 was about 15 percent higher than the same time in 2014, says Georgia’s National Tourism Administration.

Almost 300 000 international visitors entered into Georgia last month, including a 145% increase in Polish travelers.
Latest figures from the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed 319 499 people visited Georgia in January 2014, which was 14.1% more compared to the same time in 2013.
Georgia has been named as one of the top travel destinations for 2016 by leading American television channel CNN, among exotic locations like Madagascar, Taiwan and Mongolia.
One of the world's most popular television travel stations, Travel Channel, has named Georgia as one of the great destinations to visit in 2016.
Georgia’s reputation as a desirable holiday destination is growing, and the latest figures prove it. The Ministry of Internal Affairs released statistical data showing 465,962 visitors came to Georgia in December 2015. That was seven percent more compared to December 2014.
