Almost 300,000 visitors to Georgia in February

Almost 300 000 international visitors entered Georgia last month, including a 145% increase in Polish travelers.

Latest figures from the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed 294 043 people visited Georgia in February 2014, which was 0.8% more than the same period in 2013.

In the first two months of this year, 613 542 international visitors spent time in Georgia, which was a 7.3% increase compared to the same period in 2013.

Of these visitors, 230 696 (37.6%) were tourists, 100 921 (16.4%) were in transit and 281 925 (46%) of visitors came to Georgia for business or other unspecified reasons.

The highest number of visitors came from Turkey, followed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and Iran.

The Ministry said data showed a positive trend where more visitors from European Union countries continued to visit Georgia. EU visitors coming to Georiga increased by 17%.

Last month, 145% more visitors from Poland touched down in Georgia than in February of the previous year.

Similarly, the number of visitors from Italy, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Middle East – Israel, Belarus and Moldova also increased year on year.
