The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) will implement four large-scale information technology projects at the Georgian Technical University.

Representatives of CERN, an international research organisation that operated the world's largest particle physics laboratory, discussed the planned projects with Georgia’s Education Minister Tamar Sanikidze and the University’s Rector Archil Prangishvili in Tbilisi.

The parties agreed CERN would create an LHC Grid computing system with Tier-0 cluster on the base of Georgian Technical University.

The CERN representatives came to Tbilisi within the framework of the Grid and Cloud international technology conference.

The envoys said Georgia had a high chance of becoming an associated member of CERN, and agreed they would send a group of experts to Georgia to evaluate the country’s opportunities in this direction.
