The official investigation into the case against former president Mikheil Saakashvili will be objective and transparent and will provide a response to the country’s former leader, said Georgia’s Prime Minister.
Speaking from Vasiani Military Base today, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was asked for a response to Saakashvili’s comments where the former leader said he did not seek political asylum and believed Russia had some influence on the charges against him.
The Georgian leader was at the military base to attend a soldiers’ training session. There he briefly responded to Saakashvili’s comment on his indictments.
"I just stood beside very honorable people [the soldiers] so I do not want to make any comment about former President Saakashvili. He will be answered by an objective investigation, which will be as clear as possible,” he said.
"Why do I need political asylum?” asked Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili when asked if he would request asylum in Hungary or any other country.
