Georgian kickboxer becomes world champion

Georgian athlete Giga Chikadze has become the world’s best kickboxer in an international competition by WFC version K-1 style.

Yesterday Chikadze battled Japanese sportsman Naoki Samukava and won the K-1 world champion belt at Tbilisi Sports Palace in a confident victory. After a strong kick from Chikadze, the Japanese athlete was not able to continue the battle.

The Georgian athlete has won numerous A class tournaments, including world championship by Slamm version K-1 style and European championship.

Besides the main battle, rating fights were held for athletes from different countries including Netherlands, Argentina, Japan, Surinam, Russia, Armenia and Georgia.

The event was organised by the Georgian Kickboxing Federation and Tbilisi City Hall, with support from the United Nations Women (UN Women) organization, as the event was dedicated to fighting violence against women.

Chikadze is actively involved in the Un Secretary General Ban Ki-moon campaign "UNiTE to End Violence against Women.”

In addition, the money raised from the ticket sales will be transferred to the "Knockout Cancer” fund, which helps treat people with cancer.
