Georgia announces public service reform

Georgia will have a more "organized and transparent” public service system thanks to a reform the country is about to adopt.
Head of the Public Service Bureau Ekaterine Kardava presented the reform concept today. The document covered ten key aspects including salary regulations and gender equality for those employed in the public sector.
Kardava said the concept was based on the world’s best practices. A number of international and local experts were involved for several months in creating a frame to determine the nature of the reform.
It is not known yet when the reform will be implemented but the Georgian Government has already approved the document.
The Georgian Government has approved new salary bonus regulations for people working in Government structures.
People working in Georgian Government structures will no longer be able to enjoy unlimited salary bonuses.
The Georgian Government will present unified regulations for officials’ salaries and bonuses next month.
A unified system to cap salary bonuses will be created for people working in Government structures after information leaked claiming Corrections staff had received cash bonuses reaching 40,000 GEL.

Revaz Javelidze, the Head of the Georgian Government Administration, on Wednesday opened an Inter-agency Coordination Council meeting in Tbilisi to discuss the Government’s 2023-2026 public administration reform strategy and its accompanying 2023-2024 action plan, with representatives from the United Nations Development Programme and European Union involved.
