The Georgian Government has approved new salary bonus regulations for people working in Government structures.

Cabinet passed the document at today’s Governmental meeting.

Head of the Public Service Bureau Ekaterine Kardava said salary bonuses were not properly regulated under existing legislation, which was why new regulations were needed.

"So the regulations have been approved and we will present its content to people very soon,” Kardava said.

Under the new rules, high ranking public figures will be deprived the right of prescribing bonuses to themselves.

All bonuses will be required to be signed off by the head of a division only after an employee’s direct supervisor provided a detailed explanation why the person deserved a bonus. If there is no person who ranks higher in a Governmental institution, the Prime Minister will be given the right to decide if a bonus is necessary.

Cash bonuses cannot be higher than the person’s salary and bonuses will be offered no more than once every quarter.
