Three appointed to vacant Presidential Administration roles

Three leading roles within the Presidential Administration have been appointed today.

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili signed official documents assigning in-house staff to the roles of Administration head, Parliamentary Secretary to the President, and Foreign Relations adviser.

David Pataraia was appointed the new chief of the Presidential Administration. He resigned from his role as Parliamentary Secretary to the President on June 13, which he held since 2013.

In his career he has worked at the Central Election Commission, in Parliament and the National Communications Commission. He is a practiced lawyer, has a Law PhD and is an Associate Professor at the Tbilisi State University (TSU). He is also a former Law and International Relations lecturer at TSU.

President Margvelashvili promoted Pataraia’s deputy Giorgi Kverenchkhiladze to fulfill the role of Parliament Secretary.

Kverenchkhiladze is a constitutional law specialist and has held various positions within Georgia’s Parliament. He is a Doctor of Law and has delivered lectures at various Georgian High Schools and Universities.

The third person to be appointed to the Administration today was Tengiz Pkhaladze, who will be the President’s new Foreign Relations adviser.

Pkhaladze has been the director of the International Center for Geopolitical Studies since 2008. He is also a member of the Atlantic Council of United States and the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House.

During his working career he was head of the State Diplomatic Protocol Department, Deputy Governor of Georgia’s President in Mtskheta - Mtianeti region and head of the Consular Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The appointment of Pataraia, Kverenchkhiladze and Pkhaladze to their new jobs comes after four officials from the Presidential Administration resigned on June 13.

Presidential Administration chief Lasha Abashidze, his deputy, the President's Foreign Affairs adviser Vano Machavariani and head of the Administration's logistics resigned.
