The former governor of the Old Tbilisi district Lasha Purtskhvanidze and his deputy Koba Kharshiladze, who is also a former head of the security service of the late Zurab Zhvania, were released from the court on bail of 400 thousand GEL each today.

The prosecution was demanding imprisonment as a sentence for both of the defendants, while the plaintiffs attorneys made a motion to release them for 5 thousand GEL bail each at todays trial of the Tbilisi City court.

According to the investigation, Greenservice - the company founded by Purtskhvanidze and Kharshiladze was participating in the tenders despite having a serious conflict of interests since the two people had been the City governments tender commission members also. Consequently, the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Finance arrested them for illegal participation in entrepreneurial activities and legalization of illegal income.

In total, they tried to legalize up to 2 million USD in illegal income as the Prosecutors Office stated.

The arrest of Koba Kharshiladze has also been mentioned in relation of Merabishvilis case during the recent days. The ruling party officials said that the reason for Merabishvilis statement, in which he accused the Chief Prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze in pressure, could be due to fear caused by the arrest of the former head of the security service of Zurab Zhvania.
