Since 1995 Georgia and Azerbaijan have agreed on 66 per cent of the state border between the two countries, while a special commission composed of state officials from both nations continue work to achieve an agreement on the remaining 34 per cent.

Georgia has its border demarcated only with Turkey.

While in Azerbaijan, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated that the issue of the state border between Georgia and Azerbaijan should be resolved.

Negotiations are in progress to settle the problem of the 34 per cent,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry says.

Until a final deal is achieved the administrative line used under the Soviet Union is regarded as the border between the two countries.
