Georgia-Azerbaijani defence ministers sign bilateral military deal

Georgian and Azerbaijani defence ministers have signed a bilateral military agreement for 2019 during the trilateral ministerial of Georgian, Azerbaijani and Turkish foreign ministers being held in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala.
Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria held his first meeting in Gabala with Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov earlier today and thanked his country for its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Military cooperation with Azerbaijan will continue in bilateral and trilateral formats,” the Georgian Defence Ministry says.

After the meeting Izoria met with Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar.
Georgia-Turkish cooperation in terms of the NATO -Georgia Substantial Package and Black Sea security were the top two topics of the meeting, the ministry reports.
Since 1995 Georgia and Azerbaijan have agreed on 66 per cent of the state border between the two countries, while a special commission composed of state officials from both nations continue work to achieve an agreement on the remaining 34 per cent.
Georgia, Romania, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have signed a document establishing the Black Sea-Caspian Sea Freight Transport Corridor today, opening new possibilities for connectivity and regional development in the region. The foreign ministers of all four countries met today in Bucharest, Romania to sign the deal.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Zagulba Presidential Palace in Baku today on her first regional trip as president. Zurabishvili stated that the two countries started a new, independent life together after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has stated that Azerbaijan has suspended the construction of a road near the David Gareji monastery complex in Georgia’s south-east, on the conditional border between Georgia and Azerbaijan ‘to avoid complications’ during the negotiations between the two countries to agree on the border.
