Georgian diplomatic representation opens in Serbia

A Georgian consulate was opened today in Serbia’s capital of Belgrade by Georgian Parliamentary Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze. 

Officials from the Serbian Foreign Ministry and Parliament attended the ceremony.

Temporary representative for Georgian affairs Ilia Koberidze will start working there.

Ilia Koberidze is the first diplomat sent to the western Balkan region from Georgia’s Foreign Ministry.

Director of the Belgrade Institute of Economy Dragan Sagovnovic was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Georgia to the Republic of Serbia.

On March 28, the Speaker of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze and President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic discussed the issue of opening Serbia’s representation to Georgia in nearest months. 

The two officials also discussed direct flights between the countries

Georgia and Serbia signed visa free agreement in March 2018.
