Georgia and Serbia sign visa free agreement

The Georgian and Serbian foreign ministers signed a visa free deal between the two countries on March 7.
The agreement, which will come into play in the coming hours, will enable Georgian citizens holding ordinary passports to travel visa free to Serbia.

The Foreign Minister of Serbia Ivica Dacic announced that the agreement would come into effect before parliament’s completion of certain administrative procedures.
Today we signed the visa free agreement and tomorrow the government of Serbia will make an exception and activate the deal before parliament completes its procedures over the issue. Consequently, the citizens of Georgia will have the right to travel visa free to Serbia before the parliamentary procedures are finalized,” Dacic stated during the press conference with Janelidze.
The officials hailed the agreement as "highly important” for providing closer political, economic, cultural and other ties between the two states.

They also announced that Georgia and Serbia will appoint diplomats to one another’s countries before either of them establish full-fledged diplomatic missions.
The president of Serbia has already welcomed the agreement.
The foreign ministries of Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have signed a memorandum of cooperation recognising the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their countries within their internationally recognized borders.
Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is paying the first official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia today.

Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia is on an official visit to Sweden. Meeting with the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson the two ministers discussed variety of issues including strengthening fight against organized and property crimes.

A Georgian consulate was opened today in Serbia’s capital of Belgrade by Georgian Parliamentary Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic after the latter's arrival earlier today. During the meeting Bakhtadze and Dacic spoke of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Serbia. Hailing their countries’ relations they also stressed the importance of supporting each other on the international level.
Relations between Georgia and Serbia and the prospects of cooperation were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Tatjana Panajotović Cvetković, the newly appointed Ambassador of Serbia in Georgia.
