Police destroy confiscated drugs worth $3 mln [VIDEO]

The Georgian Interior Ministry has destroyed narcotic and psychotropic drugs worth three million USD (9 million GEL), confiscated during the investigation of 765 different cases around the country, the ministry has reported earlier today.
The video has been released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The drugs which were burnt in a high-temperature furnace included:
- 5.2 kg of heroin.
- 1.3 kg of cocaine.
- 4,222 pills of subutex.
- 676 capsules and 896 pills of tramadole.
- 579 pills and 58.3 gr of methadon.
- 338 pills and 21.9 gr of codeine.
- 996 pills of amphetamine.
- 8,678 capsules and 198 pills of pregabalin.
- 33.7 gr of morphine.
Officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other state agencies presented the process of the destruction of the drugs.
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has uncovered an online drug trafficking scheme and detained three drug dealers who are the citizens of Russia, announces the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A Tbilisi court has sentenced a drug dealer identified only as V. Zh. and arrested in the May 2018 raid of Gallery nightclub to eight years in prison for the sale, purchase and distribution of drugs in large quantities.
The ministry says that so-called ‘drug-shops’ were set up on Telegram messenger and internet platform Matanga, through which the drug dealers would connect with their clients and agree upon drop spots.
The Interior Ministry has destroyed narcotic substances worth approximately 55 million GEL ($20 mln/€ 18 mln). The drugs were seized during 737 investigating operations conducted around the country at different times, the Ministry reported.
The Georgian Interior Ministry reports that they have detained eight individuals for drug crimes over the past several days. Five of the detainees are drug traffickers, the ministry says.
Police have detained a Georgian citizen for the purchase and possession of 65 pills of Suboxone in the western Georgian region of Samegrelo. The crime is punishable by eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The Georgian Justice Ministry has opened the first ever Drug Situation Monitoring National Centre in Tbilisi which will have to respond to drug-related challenges in the country. The ministry says that to open the centre they have been “closely cooperating” with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) over the past five years.
Georgian police officers have detained one individual for drug offences in the west Georgian town of Poti today.
Police have detained one individual for the illegal purchase and possession of an especially large quantity of drugs in Georgia’s Eastern Kvemo Kartli region.
