Police detain eight for drug crimes, including five drug traffickers

The Georgian Interior Ministry reports that they have detained eight individuals for drug crimes over the past several days. Five of the detainees are drug traffickers, the ministry says.
During the operations ministry employees have seized:
- 1303 pills and 16 bits of subutex, 2,030 usd.
- 963 gr of heroin.
- 170 pills of suboxine and subutex, bio and six packages of methadone.
- One package of amphetamine and eight packages of bio and two packages of marijuana.
- 500 gr of substance containing heroin.
- 23 kg of marijuana.

The ministry reports that starting from January 1, 2019 they have seized:
- 26 kg of heroin.
- 2 kg of cocaine.
- 13,500 pills of subutex and suboxine.
- 23 kg of MDMA.
- 9.7 kg of psychoactive substance.
- 1.5 kg of psychotropic drugs.
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has uncovered an online drug trafficking scheme and detained three drug dealers who are the citizens of Russia, announces the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Two night clubs were raided on 12 May 2018. The law enforcers’ activity was followed by large protest rallies.
A Tbilisi court has sentenced a drug dealer identified only as V. Zh. and arrested in the May 2018 raid of Gallery nightclub to eight years in prison for the sale, purchase and distribution of drugs in large quantities.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has destroyed narcotic and psychotropic drugs worth three million USD (9 million GEL), confiscated during the investigation of 765 different cases around the country, the ministry has reported earlier today.
Police have detained a Georgian citizen for the purchase and possession of 65 pills of Suboxone in the western Georgian region of Samegrelo. The crime is punishable by eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
Georgian police have seized heroin in especially large quantities from a Turkish citizen in Georgia’s western coastal city of Batumi. The individual, who was identified as M.I., 46, has been charged with the possession of drugs.
The Georgian Justice Ministry has opened the first ever Drug Situation Monitoring National Centre in Tbilisi which will have to respond to drug-related challenges in the country. The ministry says that to open the centre they have been “closely cooperating” with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) over the past five years.
