Georgia receives $146 mln in remittances from 18 countries in May 2019

Georgia received $145.8 million from abroad in May 2019, which is 11.8% more than the amount in May 2018, says the National Bank of Georgia.

Russia ($34.80 million), Italy ($20.31 million) and Greece ($16.64 million) were the largest remittance senders in May 2019.

Overall, the vast majority (93.9%) of all money transfers from abroad came from 18 countries.

After Russia, Italy and, Greece other countries regularly sending money transfers to Georgia in May 2019 included:

  • United States – $15.96 million
  • Israel – $13.74 million
  • Turkey – $7.76 million
  • Germany – $4.23 million
  • Spain – $4.19 million
  • Ukraine – $3.75 million
  • Poland – $2.69 million
  • France – $2.34 million
  • Azerbaijan – $1.92 million
  • Kazakhstan – $1.93 million
  • Kyrgyzstan – $1.56 million
  • United Kingdom – $1.49 million
  • Cyprus – $1.28 million
  • Canada – $1.24 million
  • Armenia - $1.06 million

In May 2019, remittances leaving Georgia totalled $20.5 million, as compared to $19.7 million in May 2018.
