Jan-June 2018: Georgian wine export up 21 percent

Georgia exported 38.2 million bottles of wine to 48 countries in the first six months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

In January-June of 2018 Georgia generated about $90.3 million from the sale of wine abroad.

Revenue increased by 28 percent from January-June 2017, while the volume of exports increased by 21 percent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Export growth was notable in the following countries:

  • Japan – 200 percent increase (130,638 bottles)
  • The Czech Republic– 134 percent (30,456 bottles)
  • Kyrgyzstan –81 percent increase (140,370 bottles)
  • South Korea – 78 percent increase (31,650 bottles)
  • The Netherlands – 68 percent increase (38,799 bottles)

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-March 2018 were:

  1. Russia – 24,022,113 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 4,191,217 bottles
  3. China – 2,975,804 bottles
  4. Kazakhstan – 1,652,292 bottles
  5. Poland – 1,573,328 bottles

In the reporting period 190 companies exported their wines abroad, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 8.4 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+23 percent) and 178,000 bottles of Chacha (+100 percent) abroad in January-June 2018.
